Doosan Group Focuses on Physical AI for Manufacturing Future

Doosan Group's core executives are mobilizing en masse to Silicon Valley, the United States, to accelerate innovation by introducing AI (artificial intelligence) across the group's manufacturing-focused business operations. This decision stems from the judgment that failing to integrate AI into traditional manufacturing could jeopardize future survival.

Doosan Group announced on the 23rd that its executives, including Vice Chairman Park Ji-won, will visit Seattle and the Silicon Valley area in the United States from the 22nd to the 25th of this month to meet with global AI industry leaders such as Amazon, NVIDIA, and Perplexity. Key affiliates' CEOs, including Vice Chairman Jung Yeon-in of Doosan Enerbility, President Yoo Seung-woo of Doosan Corp., and Vice President Kim Min-pyo of Doosan Robotics, as well as each company's CSO including Chief Strategy Officer, CSO Kim Do-won from the holding sector, will accompany them. This is an unprecedented business trip with virtually all group executives attending, excluding Group Chairman Park Jeong-won.

During this trip, Doosan's executives will directly inspect AI technology sites at big tech headquarters like Amazon and NVIDIA and hold meetings with relevant personnel. They will also meet researchers from Stanford University's AI lab 'Stanford HAI, Human-centered AI' to receive advice on AI technology utilization and discuss AI innovation with consulting experts from McKinsey, BCG, and others. Additionally, they plan to engage with startups leading in physical AI and agent AI, such as Perplexity and Physical Intelligence.

It is also known that discussions on the 'Physical AI, Physical AI' field will be a key focus. Physical AI is a technology that combines AI with the physical world—such as robots, machinery, sensors, and hardware—to enable real-world actions, rather than limiting AI to the software domain. The group is exploring ways to apply this to its manufacturing-based businesses, including energy and construction machinery. Vice Chairman Park Ji-won reportedly emphasized to the accompanying executives, "We must integrate AI in every applicable area to stay ahead of the competition. Time is not on our side."

On the 22nd, Vice Chairman Park and the executives began their first schedule with a visit to Amazon's headquarters in Seattle. Amazon operates the AI-powered voice assistant Alexa and has deeply integrated AI into various business areas, including customer pattern analysis, warehouse operations, and robotics automation. Additionally, Amazon Web Services, AWS has been making significant investments in AI, offering developer and enterprise AI tools.

Next, they plan to visit NVIDIA, a leader in the AI ecosystem, to review the technological status and case studies of agentic AI and physical AI, and discuss and collaborate on future strategies and visions for physical AI across each business sector.

A source from Doosan Group explained, "This trip aims to find innovation strategies across all areas, not only adopting and utilizing the latest technologies to secure a competitive edge in the AI era but also securing AI experts, building an AI-friendly organizational culture, and advancing AI-based operations."
