Japan's F-15s Make History with First-Ever Deployment to Europe

Two Japan Air Self-Defense Force (ASDF) F-15 aircraft recently arrived at a military base in northeastern Germany, marking a historic milestone as this is the first time ASDF fighter jets have been deployed to Europe. The aircraft made a stop in Britain before reaching Laage Air Base in Germany, where they were welcomed as part of a broader effort to strengthen defense cooperation between Japan and NATO allies.

This deployment comes amid heightened security concerns due to Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine and increased military activities by China in the Indo-Pacific region. In July 2023, German Air Force Eurofighters participated in a joint exercise with ASDF F-15s at Chitose Air Base in Hokkaido, northern Japan. The recent deployment of F-15s to Germany further strengthens these ties, signaling a new phase in Japan-Germany defense cooperation.
