Enhancing Safety and Connectivity with SmartThings App Update

Samsung Electronics has rolled out a major update to its SmartThings app, introducing new features designed to enhance user safety and improve vehicle connectivity. The SmartThings app, which allows users to manage Samsung home appliances and other connected devices, now offers advanced functionalities that make daily life more secure and convenient.

Introducing SmartThings Safe

One of the most notable additions is SmartThings Safe, a feature aimed at improving personal safety. In situations where users experience physical discomfort or detect potential danger, they can activate this feature by pressing a pre-set shortcut button on their smartphone or tablet screen. This action sends their current location to pre-registered contacts, ensuring that help can be quickly summoned if needed.

The location information is accessible through various devices, including mobile phones, tablets, and even Family Hub refrigerators. This multi-device accessibility ensures that users and their loved ones can stay informed and respond effectively in emergency situations.

Expanding into Mobility: Home-to-Car Feature

In collaboration with the Hyundai Motor Group, Samsung has introduced the Home-to-Car feature, extending the capabilities of SmartThings beyond the home environment. This feature enables users to control their vehicles directly through the SmartThings app. It supports a range of functions, including checking HVAC status, ignition status, and controlling door locking and unlocking mechanisms.

For electric vehicle owners, the app also allows for starting and stopping charging processes for Hyundai and Kia models. Additionally, users can create automated routines that link their vehicles with other smart home devices. For example, unlocking a smart door lock in the morning can automatically start the car, while the vehicle’s air conditioning can be turned on in advance on hot days.

This feature is currently available in South Korea, with plans for future expansion to other countries around the world.

Improving Maintenance and Repairs

Another key enhancement in the latest SmartThings update is the ability for users to receive device status diagnostics and view past repair histories. This functionality streamlines the process of visiting service centers, as users can provide detailed information about their devices’ history and current status. This not only saves time but also helps technicians diagnose and resolve issues more efficiently.
