Youth Called to Drive Tanzania's Innovative Future

Empowering the Youth for a Future Driven by Innovation
During the closing of the Youth Engineering Forum (YEF) 2025, held under the theme “Engineering the Future: Youth-Driven Innovative Solutions Towards National Transformation,” Dr Charles Msonde, the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works, highlighted the crucial role that young people play in shaping the future of artificial intelligence (AI) and innovation. He called on the youth to leverage their creativity as a powerful tool for driving national development.
Dr Msonde pointed out that Tanzania's large youth population is a significant resource, especially when it comes to fostering innovation. He encouraged young people to take initiative and not wait for others to solve problems. “Tanzania has a substantial number of young people, and innovation heavily relies on you,” he stated. “When you face setbacks or challenges in your projects, do not give up. Success often comes with trials and challenges. If you fail once, stand up, try again, and keep pushing forward; your efforts are vital for our country's progress.”
He emphasized that innovation requires both courage and perseverance. The key message was clear: young people should be proactive in developing solutions rather than waiting for external support. In addition to individual effort, collaboration was identified as an essential component for scaling up innovations and ensuring they have a broader impact.
A Platform for Growth and Development
David Manga, Chairman of the Engineering Registration Board (ERB), praised the forum as an exceptional opportunity that has created numerous benefits for participants and the wider community. He noted that the event not only empowered individuals but also contributed to the overall development of the nation.
Manga expressed the ERB’s commitment to continuing its efforts in organizing training programs aimed at equipping young people with the skills needed for self-employment, entrepreneurship, and meaningful contributions to society. He stressed the importance of such initiatives in building a capable and innovative generation that can drive the country forward.
The Role of Education and Skill Development
The forum served as a platform for young engineers and innovators to share ideas, learn from experts, and gain insights into the latest developments in engineering and technology. It provided a unique space where participants could network, collaborate, and explore potential projects that could address local and national challenges.
One of the key outcomes of the event was the recognition of the need for continuous education and skill development. As AI and other technological advancements continue to reshape industries, it is essential for the youth to stay updated and equipped with the knowledge required to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
Building a Culture of Innovation
The discussions during the forum underscored the importance of fostering a culture of innovation among the youth. This includes encouraging critical thinking, problem-solving, and a willingness to experiment and take calculated risks. By nurturing these qualities, young people can become key drivers of change and progress in their communities and beyond.
Moreover, the event highlighted the need for supportive policies and infrastructure that can help translate ideas into tangible solutions. Governments, educational institutions, and private sector stakeholders must work together to create an environment that encourages and sustains innovation.
Looking Ahead
As the Youth Engineering Forum concluded, there was a shared sense of optimism about the future. The participants left with renewed motivation and a clearer understanding of their roles in shaping the country’s development trajectory. The emphasis on youth-driven innovation serves as a reminder that the next generation holds the key to solving some of the most pressing challenges facing Tanzania today.
By investing in the youth and providing them with the right tools and opportunities, the nation can unlock its full potential and build a more prosperous and sustainable future.
